On Planting trees
There's a way to be in service, that is almost hidden. This book by Jean Giono reminds me of it. It's the endurance of pursuing a vision, without letting anything else interfere.
It's about dedition, discipline, and the capacity to hold a task for a whole life, even on our own, without asking for recognition. Giving out of pure generosity....letting the flowers of our soul to blossom, so that they can become a perfumed gift for others.
This endurance comes from the understanding of what is vital, what can contribute to life, and in keeping doing so, selflessly.
We read the book and a dream awakens inside us. Where to find land?"A man's kind deeds are used by the Lord as seeds for the planting of trees in the Garden of Eden. Each man brings about his own trees; each man creates his own Garden of Eden." (A. Heschel, Death as Homecoming)
And a river runs through it, and "everything will live where the river goes...and on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees...their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail...their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing." (Ezek 47; Cf. Rev 22).

P.s. As a photographer, I cannot avoid to remind also the story of the well known photographer Sebastiao Salgado, who planted a forest with his wife in Brazil. A fascinating true story:
